چکیده

In this issue of Neuron, Makino and Malinow and Kleindienst et al. present evidence of a behaviorally induced form of synaptic plasticity that would encourage the development of fine-scale structured input patterns and the binding of features within single neurons.

Reading out a spatiotemporal population code by imaging neighbouring parallel fibre axons in vivo

The spatiotemporal pattern of synaptic inputs to the dendritic tree is crucial for synaptic integration and plasticity. However, it is not known if input patterns driven by sensory stimuli are structured or random. Here we investigate the spatial patterning of synaptic inputs by directly monitoring presynaptic activity in the intact mouse brain on the micron scale. Using in vivo calcium imaging...

بررسی اثر تحمل دارویی ناشی از مصرف مزمن مرفین و سالیسیلات بر شکل پذیری سیناپسی

Background & Aim: Salicylates and opioids are widely used in chronic pain relief. Chronic use of these drugs reorganizes synaptic function, especially experience-dependent plasticity in brain regions. Therefore, in this study the effects of chronic administration of salicylate and morphine on synaptic plasticity were investigated. Methods: in this review, Elsevier, Science Direct, PubMed and G...

Spike timing dependent plasticity: mechanisms, significance, and controversies

Long-term modification of synaptic strength is one of the basic mechanisms of memory formation and activity-dependent refinement of neural circuits. This idea was purposed by Hebb to provide a basis for the formation of a cell assembly. Repetitive correlated activity of pre-synaptic and post-synaptic neurons can induce long-lasting synaptic strength modification, the direction and extent of whi...

Learning Real-World Stimuli in a Neural Network with Spike-Driven Synaptic Dynamics

We present a model of spike-driven synaptic plasticity inspired by experimental observations and motivated by the desire to build an electronic hardware device that can learn to classify complex stimuli in a semisupervised fashion. During training, patterns of activity are sequentially imposed on the input neurons, and an additional instructor signal drives the output neurons toward the desired...

Synaptic Scaling in Combination with Many Generic Plasticity Mechanisms Stabilizes Circuit Connectivity

Synaptic scaling is a slow process that modifies synapses, keeping the firing rate of neural circuits in specific regimes. Together with other processes, such as conventional synaptic plasticity in the form of long term depression and potentiation, synaptic scaling changes the synaptic patterns in a network, ensuring diverse, functionally relevant, stable, and input-dependent connectivity. How ...
